Local Events

The local culture is strong in music and dance. Live music of all kinds, from traditional Ceilidhs to modern rock and pop bands, are a regular feature in local hotels and halls throughout the year. Poolewe Hotel holds live traditional music events every Thursday evening during the summer. Drumchork Lodge Hotel hold regular karaoke evenings and discos all year round. Aultbea Hotel have live music every Saturday night, mainly rock, pop, blues and country & western.

  • The Great Wilderness Challenge is held in August each year One of the biggest fund raising events in the North West. A range of distances to cover for walkers and runners alike, over some of the most beautiful parts of the Highlands. Contact Alex Macrae (tel: 01445 731238).

POOLEWE CEILIDH PARTNERSHIP 2008

INFORMATION FOR HOST GROUPS

We offer the host group the opportunity to run a raffle, and we pay the host group £1.50 per head for providing the catering.

WHAT THE HOST GROUP NEEDS TO DO

Provide all raffle prizes, and a helper to sell raffle tickets.

Provide all catering for the interval, and enough helpers to set up, serve, and clear up the refreshments.

Provide two helpers to clear up the hall at the end of the ceilidh.

Encourage lots of people to attend the event – the more people who come, the more money you will make!

WHAT THE PCP WILL DO

Provide and pay for all musicians, hall hire, publicity.

Set up the hall and put out cups & saucers etc in kitchen

Provide one person at the door, floats for the door and raffle, fear an tigh, and a couple of helpers to co-ordinate the evening.

Provide a soft drinks bar during the event (the proceeds go to the PCP, but this does not affect the catering payment)

Poolewe Market is held in Poolewe Village Hall. There is ample parking outside the Hall with disabled access, and additional parking is available 2 minutes walk away, in the village.

In 2009 markets will be held every Tuesday from 24 March until 27 October

10 a.m. - 2.30 p.m.

Come and visit the popular Poolewe Market during your stay in the area. There are a wide variety of stalls, including many quality locally made crafts.

Tea, coffee and homebaking are served all day, with goods on sale from the Gairloch Tourist Information Centre.

Examples of the type of products regularly available for sale:

Antiques, Books, Ceramics, Paintings, Cards, Delicious Homebaking, Fair Trade Products, Homegrown Fruit, Vegetables and Herbs, Knitwear, Plants, Preserves, Stationery, Jewellery

Stalls vary each week but there is always plenty to see and buy.
