Poolewe and Aultbea Toilets

In 1998 the Highland Council closed the public toilets in both these villages for six months during the winter, only providing a summer service.  Local people were very upset about this as there are no other toilets in the villages and it was felt that Highland Council was only prepared to provide a public toilet facility to summer visitors with no concern for local residents.  As a result GALE agreed to manage the facilities and provide a cleaning service in order to retain year round opening.  GALE receives the Highland Council’s six-month cleaning budget each year and uses it to employ a local person to clean the toilets every day for 11 months of the year.
