Holiday House at Coast, overlooking Loch Ewe by Gordon C. Harrison

Low Level

The Gairloch and Poolewe area can offer a variety of low level walks, most of them signposted. The Flowerdale walk begins at the car park opposite the Old Inn at Flowerdale and offers several options (leaflets usually in the hut at the beginning of the walk). The walk ends in a waterfall.

A short walk around the headland from Gairloch golf course beach is a pleasant walk with a welcome bench at its summit where you can sit and admire the view across Gairloch Bay.

The walk from Poolewe riverside car park around the circuit that takes in Loch Kernsary is a mixture of road, rough track and footpath. Loch Kernsary is often visited by nesting water birds such as divers, and otters can occasionally be seen. Walkers can continue on to more strenuous walls to Fionn Loch or Inveran.

On a sunny day the walk from Melvaig to the Rua Reidh lighthouse can  be a delight. Although walking along the road, the views down to some of the coves below and the possibility of seeing porpoises, seals or the occasional basking shark make this walk well worth doing.

For ideas and information about other low level walks in the area call in at the Gairloch Tourist Information Centre where we will be pleased to help you.
